A summer of fun heads to Liverpool ONE

Liverpool ONE gets set for summer of fun! From a chess festival, a Lego ‘Pop & Play Tour’ to a dog show, there is set to be plenty of fun-filled activities for young visitors in store.

The retail and leisure destination is gearing up for a packed calendar of events, giving families the chance to soak up the sunshine and enjoy time together as Covid restrictions are lifted.

Kicking off the season on 18th July is ChessFest, a nationwide event that will take over Chavasse Park for one day. The event, organised by Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC) and in collaboration with Liverpool Chess Club, aims to encourage both children and adults to get on board with chess.

It will include a range of activities throughout the day, including free chess lessons led by local experts; a blindfold chess exhibition; and giant chess boards. There will also be the opportunity to watch online games between players in Liverpool and those playing at a simultaneous event in Trafalgar Square, London.

Liverpool ONE will also enjoy a celebration of ice cream from 18th July on National Ice Cream Day, where visitors will have the chance to win a selection of ice creams to taste throughout the summer from restaurants including the popular Heavenly Deserts, Boujee, TGI Fridays, Yard & Coop and Bem Brasil.

Running throughout the summer is Tickle the Ivories Piano Festival, which invites both amateurs and professionals to showcase their skills.

A summer of fun heads to Liverpool ONE

The much-loved event has been returning to Liverpool ONE for more than a decade, planting pianos at various locations across the estate.

Pianos are located across Liverpool ONE, including the Leisure Terrace; by Sugar House Steps outside John Lewis; College Lane; and Peter’s Square, with all performers licensed to busk, meaning anything they earn, they keep.

Also filling the summer calendar is a visit by the Lego Pop Up & Play tour on 14th and 15th August, where families can unleash their creativity with four interactive play areas, including the chance to build vehicles and create music videos.

Rounding off the summer season will be the opportunity for dog lovers to invite their furry pals to a special dog show on 5thSeptember. Owners are encouraged to keep an eye on the Liverpool ONE website and social channels for the announcement of the various heats that cute canines can compete in at the event which will be hosted on Chavasse Park.

And, continuing to welcome young explorers is Liverpool ONE’s Nature Trail, offering families the chance to discover plants, insects and other wildlife, as well as find out more about the Old Dock, which was the world’s first ever wet dock.

Donna Howitt, Place Strategy Director at Liverpool ONE, said: “As we continue to return to normal and we prepare for Covid restrictions to lift, we’re looking forward to fun-packed summer at Liverpool ONE.

“With overseas travel still looking uncertain, we know that lots of families will be staying closer to home this summer, so we want to make sure there’s plenty going on for them to enjoy.

“We’re really excited to welcome ChessFest to Chavasse Park – it promises to be a fantastic event showcasing some very talented young prodigies, while also offering aspiring players the opportunity to get top tips from the experts.

“We’re of course continuing with Tickle the Ivories which this year has various themes, such as Liverpool favourites, circus and world music. It’s proven a huge success and has helped lift the spirits of our visitors, so it’s fantastic to be able to bring out two more pianos later this month.

“It’s shaping up to be fun-filled summer and we can’t wait to welcome back visitors, as well as welcome new faces.”
