Liverpool versus Chelsea, it has for the past 20 odd years been one of the most anticipated fixtures in the English football calendar due to the rivalry that has developed over time.

So to have it in a cup final means that all the build-up is very much warranted as it has the hallmarks to be another classic between the pair.

Both sides will be hoping winning this trophy will be the catalyst to possibly win a treble this season or even the quadruple.

With the hope that this particular chapter of this book doesn’t disappoint at a sun-kissed Wembley lets have a look at a few of the most famous games between these two English footballing giants.

The Rafa Benitez Jose Mourinho era

When these two were in charge the rivalry the tension the bitterness really spiced up as the two teams would be fighting on all fronts for trophies.

There was one tie which symbolised all that, a Champions League semi-final no less were a quote from Jose Mourinho described one of the most famous goals in European football expertly.

The ghost goal.

It lives on in the memory so much that there has been a banner made by Liverpool fans to take to Wembley.

In the first five minutes Garcia stole in and prodded the ball towards goal with William Gallas hooking it away.

The referee gave the goal and because of that Liverpool made it to the final in 2005.

We all know what happened in that final don’t we.

Jose Mourinho’s revenge

Mourinho came back to Chelsea in 2013 for two years and it only took him two years to get the revenge he craved against Liverpool in the harshest way possible.

It came through the most infamous slip of all time.

Mourinho’s defensive masterclass at Anfield was so costly for Liverpool’s 2013/14 title charge and didn’t he know it.

It’s something no Liverpool fan wants to watch back but Mourinho charged up the sidelines screaming towards his Chelsea supporters when Willian scored the second.

He loved every second of crushing Liverpool’s dreams, the bitterness is why you either love him or hate him.

On that day Liverpool fans hated him.

The big Anfield party

In the Jurgen Klopp era there has been some immense wins for The Reds against Chelsea with some of the best goals scored under the German.

Jordan Henderson’s and Daniel Sturridge’s screamers at Stamford Bridge, Mo Salah’s rocket in 2019 at Anfield to name just a few.

However the best game under Klopp against Chelsea is undoubtedly the 5-3 before the Premier League title lift.

Even though there was no fans in the ground it was an absolute classic game of football with current Everton manager Frank Lampard also arguing with Klopp on the sidelines.

There was some great goals from Naby Keita and Trent Alexander-Arnold then Liverpool got to finally lift the long awaited first Premier League title.

The party went on long through the night all across Liverpool.

Now the hope is for all The Reds across the globe the next fixture between these two sides in the Carabao Cup final will end with a famous Jordan Henderson trophy shuffle.
