Changes to Merseyrail services ahead of adverse weather

Following adverse weather warnings due to the arrival of heavy rainfall and strong winds this weekend, Merseyrail has advised that there will be some timetable changes affecting customers travelling on its Wirral line.

The wind and rain is expected to arrive on Friday and Saturday morning and continue through to Sunday afternoon.

Due to the expected poor weather conditions forecast, an amended timetable will operate on the Chester and Ellesmere Port lines on Saturday 29 February with some extended journey times.

Existing engineering works on the New Brighton and West Kirby lines on Sunday 1 March remain unchanged with rail replacement buses in operation between New Brighton and Hamilton Square and Bidston and Hamilton Square until 12:30pm.

Passengers on all lines are advised to check our website for the most up-to-date information before travelling over the weekend, or contact our customer services team via Twitter @Merseyrail or WhatsApp on 0151 555 1111 for service updates.

Zoe Hands, Operations Director at Merseyrail, said: “We apologise to any customers whose travel plans may be affected by this adverse weather.

“We always aim to operate a normal service wherever possible, however, during periods of extreme weather we amend our timetables to provide a more reliable and robust service to match the expectations of our passengers.

“I would urge all passengers to leave plenty of time for their journey and to check our website for the latest information before they travel.”
