Liverpool will host the Diabetes UK Wellness Walk on Sunday, May 19th.
The Wellness Walk is an eight-mile circuit encompassing some popular landmarks in the city. Its purpose is to encourage physical activity and promote overall well-being, while also generating crucial funds for Diabetes UK.
Registration for the walk is currently available, and participants will receive an event t-shirt and a finisher’s medal. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to join a welcoming and encouraging community both before, during, and after the event.
Diabetes UK’s Head of the North region, Clare Howarth said:
“We are so thrilled to bring the brilliant buzz of a Diabetes UK Wellness Walk to Liverpool.”
“As a Scouser myself I know how much the city region gets behind events like this and I’m looking forward to it being a really special day.”
Previous Wellness Walks have been held in London, Birmingham and Glasgow, and now Liverpool is on the starting line.
The event has been welcomed by Matthew Ashton, Director of Public Health at Liverpool City Council who said:
“Keeping fit and being active does not have to be all about going to the gym – it’s about getting fresh air and building exercise into your daily routine. Wellness Walks are a simple way to boost your wellbeing, and where better to do so than Liverpool – taking in some of the world-famous sights along the way.”
The race will start and finish at the Pier Head, in front of Liverpool’s renowned Three Graces buildings and in proximity to the famous Beatles statue.
Trainers will be available to lead an enjoyable warm-up before the walk. An MC will be present to energise participants at the beginning and congratulate them upon completion. Music will be played during the walk, and at the end, walkers will have the opportunity to unwind, take photos, or receive a massage.
If anyone is interested in participating in the event but feels that the walk is not suitable for them, there are volunteer positions available. You can express your interest in being either a general event volunteer or a route marshal.
To sign up as either a walker or volunteer just visit the Liverpool Wellness Walk website.
The participation fees are £10 for adults, £5 for 12 to 17-year-olds, and free for 11-year-olds and younger, with a maximum of three under-18s per adult. Fundraising is not mandatory, but if walkers can raise money by collecting sponsors, it will help fund vital research into creating a world where diabetes can do no harm.
