Chinese New Year at Duke Street Market

Join us for a unique Lunar New Year celebration at Duke Street Food & Drink Market in Liverpool!
This hands-on workshop is designed for adults and children aged 10 or above (children below 13 should be accompanied by an adult). Immerse yourself in the rich traditions of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, creating beautiful artworks that capture the spirit of the Year of the Dragon in 2024.
Introduction to Chinese Art:
Begin the workshop with a brief introduction to the tools and materials used in Chinese Brush and ink painting. Learn about the cultural significance of “Fai Chun” and “New Year Flowers/New Year Flower Market” in Lunar New Year celebrations.
Calligraphy & Brushwork Practice:
Engage in a 20-30 minute session crafting your own red envelope. This serves as a practice run for basic brushwork and Chinese calligraphy, allowing you to familiarise yourself with the techniques.
Chinese Painting Experience:
Immerse yourself in the art of Chinese Painting by creating a stunning “New Year Flower” or a majestic dragon in the traditional Gongbi style. Participants will be provided with a pencil drawing to trace or can opt to create their own. The final masterpiece will be mounted on red card paper, giving it the appearance of a festive “Fai Chun.”
