Everton and Liverpool Football Club stars including Reds Captain Jordan Henderson and Carlo Ancelotti have come together to record Covid safety messages for the people of the Liverpool City Region.

With Covid vaccinations rolling out quickly and plans for a phased easing of lockdown expected to be announced next week, the social media messages are part of a City Region-wide drive to encourage people to keep following the Covid guidelines.

Jordan Henderson, Captain of Liverpool Football Club said:

“I know that everyone is finding it really tough in this lockdown but the way communities in our region have supported each other is amazing to see. I know that we all can’t wait to get back to normality soon, but it’s really important that we all keep going and doing the right things until then.”

Carlo Ancelotti, Manager of Everton Football Club said:

“The most important thing we can do now is keep following the rules and to make sure we all take up the offer of a Covid vaccination.

“This weekend is when our local footballing rivalries come to the fore, but we know the community in the Liverpool City Region is really strong and we will all keep doing the right things to get through the Covid pandemic.”

The campaign is also supported by Liverpool Women’s players Rylee Foster and Meikayla Moore and by Everton Women’s players Gabby George and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah.

Steve Rotheram, Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said:

“As we look forward to the Derby it’s great to see two of our region’s great football teams uniting to deliver these important messages.

“Ours is a friendly rivalry and I think we’ve really seen that in the way people across the city region have come together to help keep each other safe. It is important to keep doing what you’re doing and, if you’re offered a vaccine, make sure you take it!”

The videos will be shared on social media from today using #LCRStayCovidSafe.
