Exciting new coffee and crepe venture – Honest Coffee heads to Crosby Beach

Exciting new coffee and crepe venture, Honest Coffee has made its home at Crosby Beach, giving visitors a tasty alternative to their flasks and home-made sandwiches.

Situated at Hall Road car park next to the coast guard station, adjacent to the 100 cast iron figures of Anthony Gormley’s Another Place, Honest Coffee provides a selection of modern coffee shop favourites right from the beach! You can combine your cappuccino or speciality tea with a delicious sweet or savoury hot crepe, all made from a purpose-built mobile unit.  If that wasn’t enough, local Crosby hot-spot Caz’s Kitchen provides a variety of cakes, from malteser blondies to traditional victoria sponge.

Local resident and coffee enthusiast Ian Congdon, owner of Honest Coffee, made the brave move from concerts to coffee when the pandemic halted live events and he decided to follow his dream, leaving his role at Birmingham National Exhibition Centre (NEC) behind him. Before heading to the NEC where he managed legendary shows from Black Sabbath to Adele, he previously managed the live entertainment programme at the Liverpool M&S Bank Arena for seven years, strengthening his connection to Liverpool. He said:

“I’ve always had a passion for good coffee, I love living in Liverpool and being close to the beach. It’s such a great location and attracts so many visitors, even when the weather isn’t great. Setting up Honest Coffee is something I’ve thought about for a long time and the pandemic provided an opportunity to turn my dreams into reality! I’ve got two young boys and a grown-up daughter, they’ve all become used to the fact their Dad is a coffee nut so I thought it was time I spread the coffee gospel wider than my own kitchen.”

Honest Coffee opened its hatch on 23 April, working with speciality roaster Hasbean providing the coffee.  Since then, the team hasn’t come up for air, selling 3000 drinks in its first three weeks and even selling out of a week’s supply of coffee by the end of its first weekend. It’s the perfect place to get your refreshments for a sunny day at the beach or to warm you up on a windy walk.

Ian continued:

“The response has been fantastic and we can’t thank our customers, family, friends, suppliers and staff enough for their support in getting us open and up and running. The drinks and food offer we have is second to none and we’re excited to be celebrating our first month of business and saying thank you to our customers by providing a few special offers over the bank holiday weekend, so keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram account if you want to get involved.”

You can catch Honest Coffee at the beach from Wednesday to Friday 10am – 4pm, Saturday and Sunday from 9am – 5pm, subject to the delightful British weather conditions.
