Faces of Liverpool - Rebecca Fry

What do you love about Liverpool?

The sense of humour, definitely. Scousers aren’t afraid to laugh at themselves. There’s always that sense of belonging whenever you meet a Scouser somewhere abroad- we always seem to find each other. I met somebody from Walton in Florida once! The city is beautiful but it’s the people that make it. I’m constantly amazed at people’s determination, creativity and passion.

Name one main thing about living in Liverpool that makes you proud?

Every time I’m driving down the dock road and see The Three Graces peeping out from behind the Albert Dock it’s like seeing Liverpool again for the first time- I get butterflies! I always think how impressed I’d be if I were a tourist.

If you could describe Liverpool in 3 words what would they be?

Friendly, tenacious and lively.

Name one place in Liverpool that holds a special place in your heart?

Woolton Picture House- I’ve been going since I was little and it’s become a Christmas Eve tradition. It dates back to 1927- it still has ashtrays instead of cup holders plus there’s always an intermission with an ice cream cart! Every few years it goes at risk of closure and it’s heart breaking.

Is there anything on your ‘Bucket List’ to do in Liverpool that your still yet to achieve?

There aren’t many stones left unturned but I’d like to go back on the ferry across the Mersey again like I used to with my grandad. I’ve also never been to the Panoramic!

Do you have any tales of Liverpool or claim to fame while in the city?

This is a bit of a stretch here but I was one of the first do go on that zip-line down Church Street a few years back. I slowed to a complete dead stop just outside of top shop and had to be rescued in front of a huge crowds of onlookers.
