With rising mental health issues being a huge concern during the unimaginable global public health crisis and here in Liverpool, the city has been and continues to be hit hard by COVID-19.
Both writing and being outdoors have been proven to be beneficial for physical and mental wellbeing, which has now seen Bernadette McBride launch a new nature writing walk as part of her social enterprise Hedge Arts CIC.
Bernadette has realized the outdoor green-creative writing workshops, for which she won the Liverpool Guild award for “The Biggest Impact on the City of Liverpool” in 2019, can be adapted to provide COVID-secure activities.
From 6pm to 8pm, participants will be encouraged to channel their thoughts and creative energies into what is needed to face the winter ahead. Drawing on the deep connection with nature through writing to solidify the relationship with ourselves and the landscape around us, the Harvest Moon is a unique moment each year with the opportunity to take stock of our emotional and physical wellbeing, helping writers come to terms with the year so far.
The activities are outdoors and the walk has had a COVID-secure risk assessment and holds a Good To Go accreditation.
Hedge Arts CIC is a not-for-profit organisation and looking to secure more funding to provide future green-creative writing programmes for school age children, family bubbles and in particular activities for those from disadvantaged backgrounds or living in isolation.
Bernadette is also looking for a new base for her workshops, ideally within a community garden or within a local cultural organisation in the city. Please get in touch if you can help.Â
