One of the world’s best Warzone warriors, Liam James, is bidding to join other more celebrated Scousers by becoming a world champion, and you can watch all the action from the city’s only dedicated esports venue, leveltap.
Otherwise known as Jukeyz, the 27-year-old from West Derby has had a meteoric rise in the world of esports and this weekend takes part in the World Series of Warzone (WSOW) 2023 Global Final in London, bidding to emulate the likes of heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and boxer Natasha Jones.
Liam started his journey by playing $1 wager matches to a handful of Twitch followers and within a year was entertaining more than 100,000 people on his streams. In 2020 he joined the UK’s London Royal Ravens outfit as a content creator and in 2021 he hit his stride in the professional ranks, winning 13 tournaments, including the Europe World Series of Warzone.
He also became only the second esports athlete signed by Red Bull UK, after being recommended by Liverpool FC star and keen gamer Trent Alexander Arnold, also of Red Bull. Liam’s profile page reads: “In the world of Call of Duty: Warzone, Liam ‘Jukeyz’ James is a bona fide global phenomenon.”
WSOW 2023 takes place on Saturday 16th when the best players from across the planet, competing in a trio, will be battling out for the biggest share of a $1.2m prize pot and it’s being streamed at leveltap, 45 Hanover Street from 3pm.
Cal Wilson, leveltap director, said:
“Liam has been a big supporter of leveltap since we opened in May and it’s great to have the endorsement from a superstar in his field and one who is from Liverpool. We can’t wait to watch his gameplay this weekend and anyone who is keen to see whether he can become the city’s latest world champion should head down to leveltap and join our watchparty which will hopefully become a big celebration.”
Liam has said about leveltap:
“Being form Liverpool I felt we desperately needed a place like leveltap and of the many gaming bars I have been to across the UK this is the best and coolest I have been in.”
Also at leveltap this weekend are the Premier League matches Wolves vs Liverpool from 12.30pm and Newcastle vs Brentford from 5.30pm on Saturday; and Bournemouth vs Chelsea from 2pm and Everton vs Arsenal from 4.30pm on Sunday.
