Liverpool FC donate £40,000 to Fans Supporting Foodbanks ahead of league suspension

A collective show of solidarity by Liverpool FC first team squad, LFC Foundation, Red Neighbours and club staff have come together to back Fans Supporting Foodbanks during the Premier League suspension.

Following the postponement of the Merseyside derby and the remainder fixtures due to the coronavirus outbreak, the cancellation of matches threatens a huge impact on North Liverpool Foodbank.

With the campaign receiving approximately 25% of its donations from matchday collections, the Reds first-team squad and LFC Foundation have committed to jointly donating £10,000 per game for the four remaining home league fixtures.

The club will also make a cash donation to North Liverpool Foodbank, while excess food at Melwood and Anfield will be donated. LFC staff will continue to support the initiative through internal donations.

An online fundraising page has been created as an alternative to allow supporters to make financial donations directly to North Liverpool Foodbank, for further information visit https://donorbox.org/fanssupportingfoodbanks

New foodbank collection points have also been set up at all LFC stores in the city as well as the museum and tours area at Anfield for fans who wish to make a donation.

LFC Foundation staff will be offering further support by arranging the collection and distribution of food donations during the period of the Premier League suspension.

All items and contributions will be donated to North Liverpool Foodbank and made into three-day emergency food parcels for local people in crisis in the area, including the club’s surrounding postcodes L4, L5 and L6.

Priority items for North Liverpool Foodbank include:

  • UHT milk
  • Long-life juice or cordial
  • Jar pasta/curry sauce
  • Tinned meat
  • Tinned vegetables
  • Instant mash
  • Rice pudding/custard
  • Jam
  • Toiletries
  • Cup-a-soup/noodles
  • Washing tablets

Making a real difference to lives in the local area, Liverpool FC would like to thank all of their fans for their continued generosity shown in supporting Fans Supporting Foodbanks.
