Liverpool rapper Scripz is raising awareness for men’s mental health

Scripz, an exciting young Liverpool rapper, is raising men’s mental health awareness with his latest single, Jay’s Story.

The 18-year-old is making waves in the local music scene for both his raw talent and his hard-hitting lyrics that aim to inspire and help others, with this second release attracting praise from far and wide.

Breaking stigmas and with wisdom far above his years, Scripz is on a mission to use rap music as a tool to make the world a better place. With profound lyrics about subject such as losing his father, addiction, mental health and homelessness, the young wordsmith packs a punch with rhymes that people can relate to.

Following a mightily impressive debut collaboration with Liverpool’s B Real, Tunnel Vision, in which he raps about mental health and dealing with the loss of his father, Scripz has released Jay’s Story. His first exclusively solo release, Jay’s Story follows the tragic life of a young man who makes wrong decisions and goes down a dark path of drugs and crime.

The music video has been expertly produced by EMPRA and Rakeem Abiru, with Lewis Ian Bray, Kieran Foster and Robert Given providing the acting, and has reached 15k views in its first two weeks. The video follows Jay’s demise and finishes with the words ‘Jay felt like he had no-one to talk to / If you have ever felt this way or feel this way just know you are loved / There are people ready to talk to you who care’ whilst signposting to Mindset Matters and Wirral Wise Guys.

Scripz said:

“I’ve always been into rap music from an early age. Growing up I had a lot of stuff going on so I started writing down my feelings on paper, eventually turning these into rhymes and then raps with beats. A lot of people find it difficult to talk about feelings and for me writing and rap music was a great outlet. I want to share that with the world and hopefully inspire people who have also gone through stuff.”

“I started writing and rapping to help myself but I started to look at the world in a different way and realise many other people are going through stuff too. By me expressing my pain, hopefully others can relate to it and it can help them get through their pain too. Music is a tool and can be used to help people, whether you’re a musician or listening to it.”

Jay’s Story is further developing Scripz’ reputation as one of Liverpool’s hottest rap prospects, but also as a mental health advocate well beyond his years. With another solo track, Last Letter, about losing his father dropping soon and a party track entitled You And Me in the pipeline, the future is very bright for the 18-year-old rapper.

Scripz summarised:

“I’m working with Rakeem from 20 Winston Records, EMPRA and other great people around me. I’m also working closely with Barry and Kirsty from local organisation Mindset Matters and we’re going to be looking at putting on workshops to help people to express themselves through music. I’m grateful for all the support and look forward to helping as many people as possible through music.”

Jay’s Story is out now on Spotify and is the first solo release from Scripz after a successful collaboration with B Real. The 18-year-old is one of Liverpool’s hottest rap talents and has a number of releases planned for the coming months, one to watch with a growing reputation.
