Premier League: West Ham vs Liverpool; Back-to-back wins?

Liverpool travel to the London stadium on Sunday having finally ended their torrid run of form in the league having beaten Tottenham 3-1 in a fantastic performance.

From the first minute It looked like Liverpool had the better of Spurs as Sadio Mane spurned a golden chance, but it set the tone.

Tottenham never looked a threat and even when they scored their wonderful goal there was never a worry that they would actually mount a serious comeback.

There was an arrogance about the champions again, they dominated and even when Joel Matip went off injured, again, there was no chance that Liverpool were letting the game escape their grasp.

Now they need to carry this into the West Ham game.

The Hammers are higher than Tottenham in the table so therefore it is the same magnitude of game which means the performance level cannot drop, what we saw at Tottenham should be the minimum to expect.

Many players stood out in the game but the man who did the most was Roberto Firmino.

When he is on it, he raises everyone else game, he scored a nice easy goal but he was the heartbeat of the attack just like he has been for the last few years.

The goal took him into the top 20 for all time goal scorers in Liverpool’s history on 84 and Jurgen Klopp was buzzing about it.

He said: “Bobby Firmino scores goals. I’m happy for him and he helps us.

“It shows obviously Bobby Firmino scores goals! It means he will be remembered in the future as one of the top goal scorers for Liverpool, that is nice.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold was also back to his best against Tottenham as he was a joy to watch scoring a goal and making one for Sadio Mane.

The aimless crossing seems to have gone which is for the best.

The midfield three were all brilliant aa well and it might be due to a slight tactical tweak which supporters have been calling out for.

It saw Gini Wijnaldum drop to the number six position with Thiago further forward and it worked a treat, however James Milner was the creative force making four big chances.

Unfortunately, though it can never be perfect though for Liverpool as Joel Matip suffered an ankle injury and had to be replaced by Nat Phillips who was solid.

Phillips and Jordan Henderson will be the centre back partnership from the start on Sunday as Liverpool search the market for an emergency centre back signing to come in.

The midfield three deserve to start again but Klopp may just rotate it just to give some legs a rest with Curtis Jones able to come in and do a professional job.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino may have to have an impact from the bench unless Klopp wants to go with a front four.

West Ham are on a six-game unbeaten run in the Premier League and have catapulted up the table.

They are in and amongst the battle for European places and their fans will be made up if they can keep it up for the rest of the season.

Manager David Moyes has a horrific record against Liverpool having only beaten the reds five times with 34 attempts.

His record against Jurgen Klopp isn’t much better as he has never beaten the German in six games.

So, he will be desperate to improve that record, but Klopp will want to get back-to-back victories for the first time in what feels like forever.

Plus, you never know by the time the game ends Shrokdan Mustafi might be announced.
