Relish provide unique food production and delivery service to support most vulnerable

COVID-19 has provided many challenges across the UK, leaving the North West’s most vulnerable in dire straits.

One Liverpool-based independent catering company has been showing their support and providing awe-inspiring services to front line workers and most at-risk individuals within the community.

Relish, recently launched a unique food production and delivery service, deliveringits industry-leading brand of catering direct to businesses, including charities, schools, community centres, homeless shelters, housing associations, care facilities and hospitals.

The campaign also supports organisations who, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, may be suffering from staff shortages or have found their usual supply lines interrupted.

As an events and catering company, Relish initially saw much of their business diminished due to the cancellation or postponement of events. The team, however, firmly believe in positivity and have flipped the operation of their business to cater for the region’s most in-need. It is now utilising its own unique facilities and resources to benefit vulnerable individuals within the community and support organisations with the preparation and delivery of meals for both staff and patients.

Since launching the initiative, Relish has already produced over 5,000 meals for those in need, working in partnership with Liverpool 6 Community Association and with Lord Mayor Anna Rothery to distribute meals across the city of Liverpool.

Operating from a 12,000 sq ft preparation kitchen and central operations hub, Relish can provide 5,000 pre-prepared meals per day and using its own fleet of catering vans can deliver next day to freezers across Merseyside, Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester.

To ensure the service is accessible to those who need it most, Relish is offering food and drink at half its usual price and will only be covering the cost of what it takes to produce and deliver, with their staff volunteering their time to ensure that the operation runs smoothly. The company also has plans to deliver £2000 worth of meals to food banks and charities over the coming weeks.

Relish draws upon a decade of experience of catering on a large-scale to deliver all kinds of bespoke menu requirements. The deliveries are completely safe, the company holds a 5-star hygiene rating and all food and drink is securely sealed, packaged and labelled with allergens, ingredients and reheating instructions where required.

More than just a food delivery service, Relish also has the space and capacity to store and supply a wide range of essential goods such as toilet rolls, soap, sanitiser, toothpaste, milk, bread, eggs, tea, coffee, detergent and more to distribute upon request.

Chis Chris Foulkes, Managing Director at Relish, said:

“Relish is Liverpool born and bred, our staff are local, and we’ve always believed in investing in the local economy and supporting our communities and businesses wherever possible.

“These are extremely challenging times for all of us but they’re especially tough for the elderly, disabled, pregnant, the vulnerable and, of course, for those who work in the NHS, social care and other key organisations.

“We wanted to adapt our services to create an offering that can help to take some of the pressure off our hospitals, care homes, social housing groups and keep them functioning during this period.”

Kiara Mako, Director at Relish, said:

“It is great to see the spirit of the community rallying to help and assist each other in times of need and we hope our new delivery service can help contribute to that cause.”

Anna Rothery, Lord Mayor of Liverpool, said:

“Relish are doing a fantastic job at adapting their business to support the most vulnerable in our communities across Liverpool.

“We’ve been working alongside their dedicated team of volunteers to deliver hundreds of prepared meals and supplies across the region to those who need them. Their seven-day meal plan consists of a soup for lunch and a main meal for the evening, and it’s all of a really high standard to ensure that recipients are getting a nutritious, well-balanced meal for each day of the week.

“It’s great that they’re able to support on a large-scale, ensuring that essential businesses, healthcare and housing organisations can continue to operate effectively and keep both their staff and patients fed.”
