Self-storage operator StoreAway appoint general manager for flagship Liverpool site

Self-storage operator StoreAway has appointed a general manager for its flagship Liverpool site as it continues to position itself as the first of its kind in inner city storage.

Rebecca Hampshire joins the emerging business, based in the heart of Liverpool ONE on School Lane, with more than a decade of experience in customer-facing roles and will oversee the day-to-day operations of the 385-locker store, which opened its doors just eight weeks ago.

Led by self-storage management and property experts Richard Lanyon and Christian Yates, StoreAway aims to eradicate empty retail and leisure space in urban areas and city centres by offering flexible storage solutions in busy spots across the country.

Rebecca, who is originally from the Midlands, said:

“Over the past five years, the storage industry has grown rapidly and I’m really excited to join StoreAway having never heard of a facility like this being available in locations like ours before.

“I was intrigued by the concept and because it is so new, it has allowed us to rewrite the rule book because there is no predecessor to follow. I can’t wait to begin helping our city centre customers move in and to see what the future holds for StoreAway.”

Taking the plunge into the storage industry after 14 years as store manager at a popular high street opticians, Rebecca will manage the 36,000 sq. ft former department store, alongside a core team of four.

As customers’ first point of contact, the team will handle enquiries, oversee on site security, and help those moving in and out of the lockers, which are spread out across four floors. They will be supported by StoreAway’s state of the art 24/7 technology that allow users to access self-storage solutions 24 hours a day, seven days a week via a smartphone app with the option of sharing entry with friends and family through a tailored approach.

Managing Director Christian Yates added:

“It’s great to welcome Rebecca to our Liverpool store and with her having spent most of her career being customer facing, she’s the perfect candidate to head up our new site.

“Being located in the centre of Liverpool’s shopping district, the store appeals to such a wide clientele, from city residents, students and businesses, who are all looking for a space to store their stock – it’s a versatile concept with masses of potential to grow. We look forward to growing our portfolio over the coming years and expanding as much as we can in sites dotted throughout the UK.”

Despite still being in its infancy, StoreAway has captured the eyes and investment of Redevco, Legal & General and Nash Business Capital, meaning it will now open in Birmingham, Bath, Cheltenham and Basildon over the next six months.
