The Liverpool Pound by Shaun Donnelly

I’m on course to save over £300 this year using a super simple and completely free app.

I like to think I’m quite savvy when it comes to matters of the wallet. Sure, I’m happy to spend a bit extra for a quality piece of clothing but I do wait for a discount to pop up before parting with my cash (most of the time). And yes, I enjoy eating out for brunch at the weekend but I also prep all my meals for the week on Sunday afternoon to keep my daily spend to a minimum.

Despite my efforts in frugality I’ve noticed that a lot of money still goes into funding my current lifestyle habits. A glance at my money tracker tells me that I spend roughly £200 per month on eating / drinking out. Apparently hose £2.40 flat whites add up!

Luckily, I’ve found a way to save a ton of money without giving up any of the things I love. All with the help of an app called Colu and something called The Liverpool Pound.

What is The Liverpool Pound and how does it work?

The Liverpool Pound is a local currency that runs through an app called Colu using blockchain technology (similar to Bitcoin). Download the app to your smartphone and you’ll be given 5 (five) free local pounds to spend at a host of great restaurants, bars and retailers across the city.

Every time you load money to your app you’ll also receive 10% extra absolutely free – this is where the savings come from – so if you upload 10 GBP you’ll get 11 LLP to spend at participating outlets.

That means if like me, you found yourself spending £200 per month eating out and getting your caffeine fix locally, you’d end up saving £240 a year without having to sacrifice a single almond croissant. Since the growing list of outlets now includes homewares shop Utility and Rennie’s my

There are now 100 + outlets signed up to accept the Liverpool Pound. You can view a full list here.

Download the Colu app here and get started today.

Not from Liverpool? Colu also operates in London so head over to their website today check out the savings you can make in the nation’s Capital.

This post is not endorsed by or in collaboration with Colu or The Liverpool Pound. I simply want to share with you the great savings hack that is allowing me to save money on my daily purchases, in the hope that it can help you too!

Colu is owned by a startup tech company in Tel Aviv, Israel. However, The Liverpool Pound team is Liverpool based and insist the firm pay taxes in Britain.
