The Whitechapel Centre launches this years Waterfront Walk

The Waterfront Walk for The Whitechapel Centre is back. The sponsored 5-mile walk will take place at 8am on the 17th of July and participants will stroll along the famous Merseyside Waterfront.

The walk was first inspired by the homeless charity’s Outreach Team, who are out every morning come rain or shine from 6am, walking 5 miles or more around the city streets to find and help people who are sleeping rough.

Anyone can show their support by taking part in the walk starting at the Pullman Hotel in Liverpool City Centre, ambling along the Otterspool Promenade and ending at the sitting bull statue in Aigburth. The event can be enjoyed by all ages so get the whole family, office, school or college involved to do their part to help end homelessness in Liverpool.

While strolling along the promenade participants get the opportunity to meet new people and chat to friends in this relaxed, Covid safe event. At the finish line the charity will be distributing a delicious breakfast butty to celebrate.

Russell who participated in last years walk said:

“We had a great time. The day was very well organised and everyone seemed to be enjoying it. My dogs loved the walk too.”

Whilst there is lots of fun to be had the Whitechapel Centre wants to use the opportunity to deliver an important message about homelessness.

Fundraiser, Hettie Miles said:

“It’s great to have events back! We hope families, friends, community groups and sports teams will come together once more to raise funds for The Whitechapel Centre. Last year was a fantastic success that was enjoyed by all our walkers and we raised over £5,000.  We would love it if this year if we could raise as much and get even more people walking!

“Throughout Covid-19 the charity has had to change the way we operate to keep our clients safe, many of whom are clinically vulnerable. In the last year we have supported over 1,000 people from  homelessness and into the right accommodation for their needs. Sadly, we know there will be many more people in Liverpool who still need our help, we couldn’t do this without our supporters taking part and raising sponsorship in our events.”
