The World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022 will amass an inclusive community of volunteers to represent the Championships and help deliver an unforgettable experience, welcoming the world to the sport of gymnastics and City of Liverpool.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to take part in a major global sporting event which is an Olympic qualifying event for Paris 2024. With applications now open, the organising committee will be working closely with British Gymnastics and Liverpool City Council to recruit the individuals to activate what will be an historic event for the region. The World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022 will engage with the city’s universities, clubs, and volunteer centres to bring the people of Merseyside to the forefront of the event.
Kate Halliday, the World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022 Workforce Manager, expressed her excitement ahead of developing the competition’s volunteering workforce:
“We are delighted to open our volunteer programme for applications to be part of the implementation and delivery of the World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022. We are so passionate about the difference that volunteers make to sport and to events, and we want to leave a lasting legacy, with volunteers being an integral part of this ambition.
“Volunteering gives people, especially those in local communities, a unique opportunity to make a personal contribution to the success of events, and in this case, a big moment for sport and for the City of Liverpool. Whether you are part of the gymnastics community, are passionate about volunteering or entirely new to the experience, it is your chance to meet likeminded people and gain unique experience at a global sporting event. As the world looks to Liverpool, we can’t wait to meet the amazing people who will help us create a memorable experience for spectators, gymnasts and the city.”
Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Visitor Economy, Councillor Harry Doyle, also believes the volunteer programme will engage communities across the city:
“This is a hugely exciting opportunity for volunteers to experience a sporting event of this size and scale in a unique way. The people of Liverpool are what make our city special, and we want to call on local communities to welcome a global sporting audience to the city.
“Liverpool has a rich history of hosting major events, and as the excitement and anticipation around the World Championships grows, we are really excited to see how volunteers will help showcase the city in the best way possible.”
The World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022 will be an Olympic qualifying event for Paris 2024 and one of the largest international sporting events ever to be held in the city. 550 gymnasts from 75 countries will compete in the global event at the M&S Bank Arena, which will take place from 29 October to 6 November 2022.
