Wallasey Rugby Club needs your help to survive

One of Wirral’s longest standing sporting institutions, Wallasey Rugby Club, has set up a Crowdfunder to help them get back on their feet after being hit hard by the pandemic. The club needs vital funds to help them survive and there are some great rewards on offer to those who donate.

In the past 12 months the club has been hit hard — with loss of revenue from venue hire and events meaning they cannot afford essential repairs to the floodlights, changing room and toilets and they cannot create a covered outdoor space as planned for this year. Donations to the Crowdfunder will help them get up to date and come back stronger for the future.

The club will approach its 100th year in 2026, and it desperately needs modernisation. Accessible disabled toilet facilities will mean people with disabilities and mobility issues feel welcomed at the club and improvements to the changing facilities will accommodate the increase in rugby players.

New floodlights will enable training all year around and more night time rugby when the season starts and a covered outdoor seating area will increase capacity and support the club with Covid guidelines.

Wallasey Rugby Club has served the community for almost 100 years and has raised tens of thousands for charitable causes during its history, but now they need your support. The target of the club is £35,000 but club is optimistic about achieving its target, given its long history of serving the community via rugby, events, venue hire and many charitable causes and fundraising over the years.

Club President, David Bott, said:

“Covid has meant that we have played no rugby since March last year. We have also lost all means of generating income. As well as cancellation of all rugby fixtures, during the past 12 months all social events (those we run ourselves and those booked by local people for birthdays, christenings, etc) have been cancelled as well.”

He continued:

“Our intentions for 2020 were to get new (modern!) changing rooms, build accessible toilet facilities, purchase floodlights and create a covered outdoor space on the patio for families to use. None of this has been possible. We now need your help to get back on our feet and get the club thriving again for all of the local community to enjoy.”

The rewards on offer for donating depend on how much people donate and include things such as free venue hire (£100 donation), The Sound gig (£20 donation), Crissy Rock comedy night (£20 donation), Sponsor A Brick (£25 donation), Sponsor Boards (£200 donation) and various vouchers for local businesses, pubs, restaurants and hotels.

An integral part of the local community, Wallasey Rugby Club needs the support of the local community now more than ever. If anyone can kindly donate to the Crowdfunder it represents an opportunity to keep this incredible institution going and whilst gaining rewards at the same time.
