SERIES TWO – EDITION EIGHT
In series two – edition eight of our Faces of Liverpool series we caught up with Stephen Yip, aged 66 from Liverpool 1; Founder & CEO of KIND Children’s Charity.
What do you love about Liverpool?
The people of Liverpool care. They look after each other and are some of the most generous people in the world.
Name one thing about Liverpool that makes you proud?
It’s people.
If you could describe Liverpool in 3 words what would they be?
Home, family, future.
Name one place in Liverpool which holds a special place in your heart?
The KIND Children’s Centre. For the last 24 years we have been providing children from across Liverpool with educational, fun and inspirational activities and experiences designed to show them that they and life can be different.
Is there anything on your bucket list in Liverpool that you’ve yet to achieve?
Hopefully, by working with others across our city I can get us out of the present mess that the city is facing. We want our city to regain its reputation and be a place that we can again be proud of.
Do you have tales or claims to fame whilst in this city?
1. I was born and lived for the first 10 years of my life in the last of the ‘back to backs’ in Duke Terrace. Ten of us lived in 6 rooms with no bathroom or running hot water, but I had the best childhood ever. It was an amazing place to live, especially as we were in the heart of the city and right next door to Chinatown.
2. I was the first person from an ethnic background to be awarded the honour of Freedom of the City of Liverpool.
3. I went to the same school as John Lennon – Quarry Bank High School.
Stephen Yip is currently in the election run for Mayor of Liverpool, for more information please visit www.yip4mayor.com
