Hop/Scotch Liverpool

Neat, Irish, single-malted, blended or bourbon – whatever your choice may be, whisky is a spirit not for the weak or faint hearted.

Bringing all that fire, spice and smoke, you will be wanting to drink the bar dry once you pay a visit to Hop/Scotch Liverpool.

If you think of yourself as a whiskey sommelier, or maybe new to the scene, don’t let curiosity get the better of you! Take a walk off the beaten track and pull up a seat at the latest cutting edge whisky bar to light up the city.

Recently opening in a basement on Constance Street in the Fabric District, local owners Beck & Matt are marking their territory in the regeneration of the area. Rubbing shoulders with a neighbourhood of new businesses including Scale, No Face Tattoo, Game Over, DoEs, The Fashion Hub, Layers, Hop/Scotch Liverpool is charming its way onto the city’s popular independent scene.

So, what makes Hop/Scotch a worthy visit on your next outing?

Well the sheer fact it specialises in independently bottled whiskies, and other independently bottled spirits – this daring quaint haunt is the first bar in Liverpool to do this!

Indie bottlers are companies or people who hand select and purchase casks of whisky or other spirits such as rum, brandy, either direct from distilleries or via a broker – these are then bottled under their own name, still with the name of the distillery where it originated from, how old the liquid is, the type of cask it was aged in.

These spirits vary greatly as no two casks are identical, with some releases only yielding 100 bottles worldwide, exciting right?

Beck & Matt said:

“We are excited by this and we believe many others will be too, as it allows them to try something very unique and limited.  Having wrote about whisky for a number of years, I am into it in a massive way, and any bottles we get in behind the bar you can be assured that they’re all quite special – and for the most part you won’t find them anywhere else in Liverpool or even the North-West for that matter.

We pride ourselves on being accessible to pretty much all budgets (something you don’t often see with bars that sell high end spirits) – of our 100+ bottle collection, around 30 of these are available for £5 or less per dram.”

If drinking whisky or other spirits neat isn’t your thing, then fear not, as the venue also have a constant rotating selection of craft beers and a handful of heavenly yet classic cocktails to indulge.

Hop/Scotch are also set to stock an option of natural wines, bringing something to the table for everyone to enjoy and be involved.

If there was ever a Perfect place to sit back and enjoy a dram while feeling a million miles away from the daily grind, then this idyllic locale is the one for you.
