LFC fan Gaz Emmerson to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats for Sarcoma UK

Gaz Emmerson a huge LFC fan with terminal cancer and his team will be cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats covering 1000 miles in 13 days to fundraise for Sarcoma UK.

In 2014 Gaz was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma and in November 2020, Gereth’s diagnosis became terminal. Gareth wanted something positive to focus on so decided to raise as much money as possible for Sarcoma UK.

Gareth Emmerson tells his story

Sarcoma UK is a bone & soft tissue cancer charity that funds viral research and offer support for anyone affected by Sarcoma cancer and also campaigns for better treatment.

The cycling fundraiser will begin in June 2021, and Gaz has planned to marry his childhood sweetheart Zoe in July after the challenge is complete.

On the 13 day cycling challenge he will be joined by Zoe, his dad Andy and three of his best friends on the ride.

Gareth is currently training for the challenge down in London while he is having regular chemo sessions.

The fundraising target has now been doubled from £25,000 to £50,000 because of the amount of support shown and peoples generosity the fundraiser has received so far.

On 7th February Gareth announced on Facebook he was doing the cycling fundraiser:

As many of you know, for the past 7 years I’ve battled Ewing’s Sarcoma. In November last year, my diagnosis became terminal and the cancer spread to my lungs, lymph nodes and brain.

I’ve never been one to dwell on my diagnosis and have always focused on filling my life with positive things, now being no exception.

In June this year I’ve signed up to cycle 1000 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 13 days to raise money for Sarcoma UK. Sarcoma UK is the only national charity focusing on sarcoma-based research and supporting sarcoma victims and their families. It’s a charity very close to my heart. Joining me on the ride is my dad, Andy, Zoe Homer, Emily Swan, Zoë Anastasiou and Tom Lorimer.

I’ve explained a lot more about my illness and why I’m doing this in the video below so please do watch it.

Any donations to Sarcoma UK really would mean the world. Our JustGiving page is now live.
