Liverpool entrepreneur turns box room project into seven-figure company

At the young age of 23, Liverpool entrepreneur Liam Quirk founded Quirky Digital in May 2020.

Liam, who is now 26 years old, employs 13 members of staff from Merseyside, has secured over 50 clients for his SEO company, and is projected to generate seven figures in 2024.

Quirky Digital is a progressive, dynamic SEO firm that supports its clients with digital PR, content creation, and technical SEO. It specialises in local, national, and e-commerce SEO.

Liam discovered he wasn’t the greatest fit for a classroom environment after leaving school with just three GCSEs. His uncle had introduced him to SEO when he was still in senior school, and he had a strong interest in business.

Liam explained:

“Once I realised that I could break things and make them better than when I found them, I started building my own websites and completely committed my life to understanding algorithms and pushing the boundaries online.”

Liam kept expanding his SEO expertise over time, and in May 2020, he finally made the bold decision to start Quirky Digital, all from his parents’ box room.

He said:

“I realised there was a real gap in the market for performance-based SEO across the UK as most other agencies were providing packaged style services.

“The day before Boris Johnson announced the first national lockdown, I handed in my notice, used all of the savings I had and worked from the spare room in my parents’ house to get the business off the ground.”

These days, Quirky Digital manages over fifty clients in a variety of industries, including healthcare, professional services, SAAS, investment, real estate, addiction, and eCommerce. The company is housed in Oriel Chambers on Water Street and employs thirteen full-time staff members.

The rapidly expanding company not only works with clients, but it also has a portfolio of websites that it uses to test new tactics.

With an estimated 1.2 million in revenue in 2024, Quirky Digital is expected to grow thanks to its own SEO strategy, Liam’s well-known personal LinkedIn profile, and the hiring of seasoned non-executive directors located in Liverpool who manage the team, finances, and procedures to make sure the business expands as smoothly as its clientele has so far.

Liam added:

“I want Quirky Digital to be ahead of the curve. These websites allow us to test new strategies before most agencies even know what they are. We also network with fellow industry professionals across the globe meaning that we’re uncovering new and exciting ways of working.

“We’ve seen exponential growth since I started the business back in May 2020. In less than four years, it’s turning over seven figures and we have a fantastic team that is constantly expanding. We’ve come a very long way since I was working alone in my mum and stepdad’s box room!”
