Liverpool Theatre School performers make West End debut

Liverpool Theatre School showcased its graduate talent at Leicester Square Theatre in London last week. The event gave a group of students from one of the city’s most successful performing arts schools, Liverpool Theatre School, the opportunity to perform on the prestigious West End stage and experience its magic.

On Thursday the 21st of March, a group of talented final-year dance and musical theatre students had the opportunity to showcase their skills in the West End, in front of an audience consisting of agents, talent scouts and industry influencers.

The bright students hope to follow in the footsteps of the numerous stage and film celebrities who trained at Liverpool Theatre School, as they are predicted to become the next wave of professional performers. Alumni include Oliver Ormson, star of the West End production of Frozen, Tim Lucas, who plays Mickey in the Blood Brothers UK tour, and Natalie Pilkington, who is currently touring with SIX.

Speaking on Liverpool Theatre School’s graduate showcase at the Leicester Square Theatre in London, Principal Maxine Ellis, said:

“As our graduating students prepare to make their mark as professional performers, this will be an invaluable opportunity to showcase their skills and impress the industry influencers in the audience.

“Staging our graduate showcase in London’s West End means we’re right on the doorstep of the top agents and casting directors who are on the lookout for emerging talent. Many of our former students have gone on to join the cast of West End musicals and touring shows, so we’re really looking forward to following the professional careers of the stars of this year’s graduate showcase. It’s going to be fantastic to see our talented final year students enjoy the experience of performing in the West End for the first time as they show just what they can do.”

The final-year students who performed in the West End showcase included Eloise Mockl (20) from West Derby. She has been trained at Liverpool Theatre School since she was three years old.

She said:

“I’m so excited about having the chance to perform in the West End, it’s going to be an incredible experience. We’ve all worked really hard to get to this point in our training and we can’t wait to get out there and give it everything we’ve got. I know we’ll do ourselves and Liverpool Theatre School proud!”

The prestigious Trinity College London-accredited theatre offers professional training in Dance, Musical Theatre, and Acting through a variety of BTEC courses and elite programmes. Notable alumni include dance legend Wayne Sleep OBE and stage and film star Anita Dobson. Liverpool Theatre School only accepts the most gifted applicants, and spots are given out after a rigorous audition process.

Liverpool Theatre School awards several fully funded scholarships and bursaries to deserving students each year as part of its mission to increase access to professional training for all budding performers, especially those from working-class backgrounds. The school that received a “outstanding” rating from Ofsted is one of only fifteen in the nation and the only one in Merseyside to provide students with financial assistance for professional training through the DaDAs (Dance and Drama Awards).

The junior academy is open to all young people (ages 4–16) who have an passion for acting, dancing, and singing. It offers evening and weekend classes.
