Metropolitan Cathedral has launched two new visitor experiences

Two brand-new visitor experiences have been launched by the Metropolitan Cathedral with the intention of giving a fresh perspective on the famous Liverpool landmark.

The first to launch is an interactive family trail, especially designed for younger visitors. Free to access from any smart phone, Explore with Eva takes visitors on a treasure hunt-style journey around the Cathedral. The self-guided trail prompts children to seek out a selection of the Cathedral’s world-famous art and architectural features, while virtual tour-guide ‘Eva’ shares fascinating fun facts along the way.

Children will discover the fascinating history of the Cathedral’s magnificent Lantern Tower, one of the world’s largest collections of coloured glass, and they will be inspired to examine the Grand Organ’s recent restoration closely.

And the second to launch is an immersive audio tour, which enables local and international visitors to experience the sights and sounds of the Metropolitan Cathedral like never before. This comprehensive tour brings the beauty of the Cathedral to life through a mix of music, history, and art. It is available in French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, and Chinese translations.

The new audio tour also includes two bonus tracks: Sounds of the Cathedral, which features a hand-picked section of music from the Cathedral Choir, and Memories of the Cathedral which explores the Cathedral’s history through the voices of those who experienced it firsthand.

Both of the new experiences were created by regional heritage engagement specialists Whispered Tales in partnership with Cathedral staff and volunteers from the local community with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Cathedral Dean, Canon Anthony O’Brien said:

‘Both the family trail and audio tour provide a wonderful opportunity for new audiences to engage with and enjoy the heritage and beauty of our Cathedral. We look forward to sharing the new resources with visitors in the coming months’.

Explore with Eva is free to access. Scan the QR code on the Cathedral Welcome desk to start. Available seven days a week except on Good Friday and during masses and services.

Audio tours are priced at £5 each. Headsets are available to collect from the Cathedral Welcome Desk Monday – Saturday between 10am and 3.30pm except on Good Friday and during masses and services.
