Taste Liverpool. Drink Bordeaux, a new food and drink festival in collaboration with the city’s hospitality sector, the Bordeaux Wine Council and the French Government – confirming Liverpool’s status as the UK’s host city for Bordeaux Wine Festival in 2022.

For four days in June, Liverpool will come alive to celebrate its food and drink sector with a brand new festival. Taste Liverpool. Drink Bordeaux takes place from 2-5 June to coincide with the Queen’s Jubilee Celebration.

The festival, organised by Culture Liverpool, Marketing Liverpool and Liverpool BID, is being described as ‘the most delicious weekend of 2022’.

New food and drink festival 'Taste Liverpool. Drink Bordeaux' heads to Liverpool this June

Taste Liverpool will redefine ‘street food’ as three of the city’s foodie destinations Hope Street, Bold Street and Castle Street become immersive food experiences with takeovers by local restauranteurs and producers, cookery demonstrations, food inspired cultural events and venues offering special festival menus.

And visitors can say bonjour to some of Bordeaux’s world-famous wine producers. They’ll be arriving in the city as part of the partnership with Vin de Bordeaux to showcase some of the region’s finest wines, alongside tastings and masterclasses.

The festival is free to attend with ticketed experiences available for wine tasting. Tickets will be on sale soon.

Mayor of Liverpool Joanne Anderson said

“We’re delighted to be creating this festival in collaboration with the city’s fantastic food and drink sector, the city of Bordeaux and hosting Europe’s most prestigious wine festival alongside our sister cities Bordeaux, Brussels, Quebec and Hong Kong. And for visitors, there’s no better festival to plan a trip around than Taste Liverpool. Drink Bordeaux. Food is the most delicious way to explore Liverpool.”

Allan Sichel, Vice-President of the Bordeaux Wine Council said :

“We look forward to being back in Liverpool bringing our passionate and committed winemakers and merchants who are happy to offer tastings of their wine and talk about their style and share details of great diversity of Bordeaux wines. Wine and food are closely linked and the involvement of Liverpool’s top chefs and restaurants with Bordeaux wines promises visitors excellent tasting experiences. Taste Liverpool. Drink Bordeaux is part of a long-term cultural and tourist partnership between our cities.

Paul Askew Chef Patron at The Art School and Creative Director of Taste Liverpool said:

“Taste Liverpool. Drink Bordeaux is the most exciting and important event in terms of gastronomy and food and drink culture development ever for Liverpool. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the best of our dining scene across the entire spectrum of what we have to offer here. And to be able to match this to fantastic wines and Bordeaux’s 300-year history with the UK is truly momentous. I am delighted this is happening in Liverpool on the Queen’s platinum jubilee weekend; it’s a fantastic way for restaurants, bars and hotels to show off the city as its absolute best, matching our incredible range of food with fabulous and affordable wines and to show the world what Liverpool’s food and drink scene is all about. The partnership between Liverpool and Bordeaux is very close to my heart. I have my own maritime history through my father and his travels and seeing these two inspiring cities become pivotal in terms of tourism and food and drink, each set by the water, is magical for me and being part of the journey. There are wonderful times ahead as the city continues to grow as a foodie destination with a vibrant dining scene.”

Julia Huf, Project Manager said:

“Taste Liverpool. Drink Bordeaux aims to be a catalyst for growth and development for our restaurateurs and local food producers, contributing to Liverpool’s post pandemic recovery in its first year and highlighting Liverpool as a welcoming, internationalist and culturally diverse city with a Hospitality sector that embodies this spirit.

The Festival’s unique proposition is to set Liverpool as the stage of a rich and immersive city-wide dinner out experience by driving people into the restaurants. As someone that worked in Hospitality for the last 5 years, I am really looking forward to using my passion and experience to deliver a world-class festival aimed at showcasing the venues that makes Liverpool such an exciting city to live and visit.”

Bill Addy, Chief Executive of Liverpool BID said:

“The creativity, passion and determination you will find in the professional kitchens of Liverpool are comparable to what you’d find in an artist studio. As Liverpool city centre has changed and evolved the independent restaurants, cafes and bars reflect the city’s rich diversity. That you can eat in Lebanon one night, pop to Persia the next, cross the road to India the following evening and then stop off for an Italian-Scottish blend for lunch reflects Liverpool’s blossoming food scene and, most importantly, the ability of food lovers to bring their culture to the plates of the city. This festival will celebrate an industry made up of people who love food and drink, and it is the perfect time to do it, after such a torrid two years. The food and drink industry is so central to Liverpool’s culture and local economy this is the time for it to shine”.
