Our Kid now available to watch after world premiere in London

Sunday 29th October was the world premiere of Our Kid at the Raindance Film Festival in London at Curzon Mayfair.

The film, directed by Sean Cronin and written by Daniel P. Lewis, who also stars in the film, is based on the award-winning 2016 short film Thomas. It follows twelve-year-old Laura Reilly, who only wants to play for Liverpool when she grows up, but her older brother, who has cerebral palsy, is her biggest hero. Based on the multi-award-winning short film Thomas, the Reilly family must adjust their lives after receiving devastating news.

The Reillys are a working-class family who learn to deal with adversity through humour in this comedy drama. Tracey (Sharon Byatt – ‘Bread’) is the family matriarch. John (Connor McIntyre – ‘Coronation Street’) is a “cowboy builder,” as his father is. Grandad Allan (John McArdle – ‘Brookside’) is a cab driver who only communicates through ‘dad jokes’.

Laura, a twelve-year-old girl, dreams of one day playing professional football. Laura has many football heroes, but her favourite is her older brother Thomas. His inspiring quest to raise money for charity through a sponsored bike ride, while overcoming the challenges of his cerebral palsy, demonstrates to Laura and the rest of the community what determination and perseverance can accomplish.

The all-star British cast gels beautifully. In the film, look out for Ricky Tomlinson (‘The Royle Family,’ Leanne Best (‘Tin Star), Mark Moraghan (‘Holby City,’ and Louis Emerick (‘Layer Cake’), all of whom bring years of experience and well-known personalities to this powerful story. Poppie Jae-Hughes’ (Laura) and Daniel P. Lewis’ (Thomas) debut performances are endearing, captivating, and inspiring for the independent film industry as a whole.

Explore Liverpool and Malmaison were proud sponsors at the world film premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in Mayfair, London.

Daniel P Lewis, writer, producer, and actor, said:

“Sunday was a blur! This has been six years of hard work, ups and downs, blood, sweat and tears….literally! A complete roller-coaster of emotions and I came close to throwing in the towel a few times. However with building a great team around me along the way and the incredible support from ‘Colin Cromby’ (Producer), ‘Chris Parrott’ (Executive Producer), ‘Sean Cronin’ (Director), ‘Ash and Jen’ at MODA PR, our exec’s, sponsors and of course incredible cast has made it all the more fun and worth it. Sunday was a great experience BUT the hard work doesn’t stop here….we’ve only just started!”

Our little Liverpool film comes to it’s hometown of Liverpool and I’m so excited and proud. This isn’t “my film” it’s “OUR FILM!” A project that has been supported by so many and of course our wonderful community.”

Steven Talbot, Managing Director of Explore Liverpool, said:

“What a powerful film Daniel has worked tirelessly to bring to the big screen! Daniel not only wrote the film, but he also co-produced it and played one of the lead roles. Everyone involved in making this film should be proud. Congratulations to the entire cast, crew, and everyone involved.

It was fantastic to see such a large crowd at the world premiere in London on Sunday.

The film was extremely moving and powerful, it brought tears to the audience’s eyes throughout, which were always followed by laughter.

Anyone who enjoys a good comedy-drama British film should watch this. It was great to see the film shot in some well-known Liverpool City Region locations, as well as some good Scouse humour added throughout.

I’m excited to help promote this film in the coming weeks and can’t wait for the screening in Liverpool.”

Our Kid will be coming to the Plaza Community Cinema on Wednesday 8th November from 7:30pm to 10:30pm.
