Player ratings: Everton lose again as a Brentford penalty is enough to secure the victory for The Bees

Everton continued their woeful form as Brentford made sure it was seven league games without a win for The Toffees.

Ivan Toney got the winning goal from the penalty spot in the first half due to a high challenge from Andros Townsend.

Everton struggled to react to going behind and in the second half could not make anything with the pressure that they put on Thomas Frank’s side.

It was yet again another really poor showing which will leave Rafa Benitez looking over his shoulder as Everton sit just six points above the drop zone.

The away fans at the end of the game booed off their own players which portrays the feeling surrounding the club right now.

Player ratings

Jordan Pickford: 6

Was strong from the numerous crosses and set pieces that Brentford put in to the six-yard box. Couldn’t do anything about the penalty as it was superbly dispatched by Toney.

Seamus Coleman: 2

No quality going forward whatsoever. Poor crosses and poor positioning when attacking. Did not help Demarai Gray out as he offered him no support on the outside with overlapping runs.

Ben Godfrey: 3

Got bullied by Toney. Allowed the striker to get his body in every time and torment him.

Michael Keane: 2

Also got bullied by Toney and could not cope with the runs in-behind in the first half as he kept losing his man. No composure and didn’t help Everton build from the back.

Lucas Digne: 3

Done more in an attacking sense than Coleman but was still very ineffective due to his disappointing end product. Also got ripped to shreds by Bryan Mbuemo’s speed in the first half which showcased the lack of defensive ability which has been evident this season.

Anthony Gordon: 4

Live wire throughout the game as he always is. Tried so hard to make things happen but again just struggled to have any end product.

Abdoulaye Doucoure: 5

Didn’t start well as he lost the ball on a couple of occasions. Important to get the full game to prove he is fully fit and ready for the tough schedule. Adds a lot to the midfield.

Allan: 3

Careless with his passing doing hopeless long balls throughout and also didn’t help the backline cope with Toney.

Alex Iwobi: 2

Offered nothing again. Had a big chance which was easily saved in the second half. Too many touches on the ball every time he picked up possession which meant he was unable to release the ball early enough to create potential opportunities.

Andros Townsend: 2

His worst game for Everton by far. Needlessly gave away the penalty with a stupid high footed challenge. Pointless consistent crosses into the box when no one was in the area.

Salomon Rondon: 4

Was better today but it didn’t take much due to his mediocre form so far. Unlucky not to score Everton’s best chance that he created with a neat turn. Had an effort blocked in the second half too which looked goal bound. Was frustrating at times when he was not in the box for the countless crosses.

Substitutions:

Demarai Gray (Andros Townsend 70): 4

Attempted to make things happen down the right. Looked dangerous but couldn’t have the impact he wanted.
