Public Transport Lights the Way! Ahead of amazing light projection show

March 2, 2020

Sefton Council is making it easier for families wanting to travel and watch all three showings of an amazing light projection show as part of our Borough of Culture year.

The Council has teamed up with Borough of Culture travel partner Arriva to offer free family bus passes while The Nightingale’s Song is on (March 13-15) at Waterloo Town Hall, Bootle Town Hall and The Atkinson, Southport.

The three impressive civic buildings will be the backdrop over the 3 nights as The Nightingale’s Song is projected on to them.

A trilogy of large-scale video projections will be created on consecutive nights, each a chapter in an interwoven story that connects the coastal towns and people together by international projection artists, Illuminos.

A limited number of free Arriva family bus travel passes are available while the shows are on (March 13-15) and these can be picked up at either Bootle or Southport Town Halls from March 2.

Cllr Trish Hardy, Sefton Council’s main sponsor for the Borough of Culture year, said: “We have said all along we want people to try and attend all three shows at the three different locations so they can witness the story in its entirety as part of our Borough of Culture year.

“By teaming up with Arriva, who have kindly donated a number of free family travel passes, this will make the spectacular event even more accessible for everyone.

“We are expecting large crowds from across the City Region at these events so please get there early and I hope everyone considers using public transport. This is just the start of our amazing Borough of Culture year.”

The Nightingale’s Song is a tale of magic and wonder, of myths and wondrous creatures, spectacular nature, of ships and sailing, of peoples past and present that captures the history of Sefton.

The first part of the trilogy will be projected onto Waterloo Town Hall on Friday, March 13, followed by the second part on the side of Bootle Town Hall on Saturday, March 14. The final chapter will be screened on The Atkinson building in Southport on Sunday, March 15. All shows are free and set to start at 8pm each evening. For those attending the Waterloo Town Hall event, Waterloo train station is the nearest, those heading to Bootle Town Hall, Bootle Oriel Road station is closest and please use Southport train station for the light show at The Atkinson. All stations are a matter of minutes away from the venues.
