One of Liverpool’s most-loved historic parks, Stanley Park, is getting its very own weekly market throughout the summer holidays.

Grade II* listed Stanley Park will host its first outdoor market every Wednesday, running from 24 July to 4 September, 9am to 3pm each week.

Located in the car park closest to Liverpool Football Club’s Anfield Road stand, around 50 stalls will be available selling a huge variety of products from fashion, homeware, accessories, crafts and fresh produce. There will also be an area dedicated to delicious food and drink.

As well as the chance to purchase some locally sourced goodies, each week there will be a range of information stands, giving visitors the chance to find out information on a number of health or community-related topics.

Liverpool’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Richard Kemp, will officially open the market on Wednesday 24 July.

It is the City Council’s first weekday, outdoor retail market for a number of years and it is hoped that the seven-week trial run will be a huge success and potentially return at a later date to be a regular community activity.

This free-to-attend market is the latest addition to Liverpool’s well-established and popular, city-wide markets offer – from the weekly Great Homer Street Market, right through to the regular programme of farmers’ and crafts markets.

The announcement comes just weeks after St George’s Hall hosted a brand new market showcasing some of the best, local independent businesses around, attracting nearly 3,000 people on just one day.  It was so successful, two more dates have already been added to the diary, and it will return on Sunday 6 October and Sunday 3 November.

Local market trader, Terry Clarke, said:

“We are looking forward to the opening of the new Stanley Park Market. There will be lots of the best quality goods at the lowest prices. Bargains for everyone!

“We hope the people of Anfield and surrounding areas come and support us and make the market a success. In these times of austerity the market is the place where you will get more for your money. We look forward to seeing you on 24 July.”
