Zakopane – Poland

Zakopane is a resort town in the foothills of Tatra Mountains, Poland’s best-known mountain resort, famed for hiking in summer and skiing in winter.

Whether you go here for skiing or walking the views you’ll get will be unbelievable. We went for the skiing. We were all beginners so in terms of how good the slopes were for full on skiers we couldn’t tell you but it was really good to learn how to ski.

We pre booked a lesson and our equipment with a company called GO!Ski. Strongly recommend them, made everything easier. They provide you with skis, boots, helmets, sticks & goggles (which you keep hold of for however long you need them) and drive you to the slope for your lesson.

If you don’t want the clutter of keeping hold of your equipment then you can rent them at each ski slope and even book lessons. Plenty of slopes to choose from but our favourite was Polana Szymoszkowa. Had options for both beginners and better skiers and has the best views from the slopes.

If you do want to stay close to a slope then we recommend a hotel called Mercure. Although the cost can add up when you take flights, accommodation, transfers & equipment into account, it is cheap once you’re there. To give you a rough idea it is around £1.20 for a pint.

Zakopane Information

Flight: Manchester ✈️ Kraków. £120 for flights if booked early enough

Transfers: 2 hour drive from the airport so pre book transfers. We paid £190 (there and back), but this was between 6 people and our own minibus. There are cheaper options so look for comparison sites

Accommodation: Domek Koliba pod Smrekami. Booked on booking.com. Slept 6 so was perfect for us. Location was good, walking distance to the supermarket, bars and restaurants, also not too far away in a taxi to the slopes

Things to do: Skiing, Walking
