Jordan Henderson organising Premier League coronavirus fund for NHS

Liverpool Football Club captain Jordan Henderson is organising for a Premier League coronavirus fund for the NHS.

The Times have reported that the Liverpool skipper has been in contact with captains from rival Premier League clubs and aims to raise millions of pounds for the NHS.

Henderson has spent the few days contacting high-profile players, with the reaction being universally positive and talks were reportedly underway before recent comments made by Health Secretary Matt Hancock.

Guidance will be asked on how the money can be distributed best to help deal with the coronavirus pandemic. Contact has already been made with banks to set up the fund, with football players being asked to contribute.

According to The Times “Henderson is not looking to take any credit for this. Indeed, he was said to be frustrated that news of the plans had emerged prior to the fund being created.”

Sources close to the player say that he simply wants to use what influence he has to support NHS workers and the wider community.

One of the suggestions was to unanimously agree to a wage cut of almost 35 per cent across the board to help fight against the coronavirus crisis.

Premier League players were slammed by Matt Hancock, with players told to ‘play their part’ and take pay cuts amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
