Gusto Italian to celebrate 80 years of Carbonara with flash sale

Contemporary restaurant Gusto Italian is all about ‘making the most of life’, so they’re keen to spread some joy by commemorating the eighty-year anniversary of the widely popular Carbonara dish.

For two days only, Gusto’s favoured Bucatini Carbonara will be served for just £8 on Friday 1st September and Saturday 2nd September, which is almost half the original price of £14.95. T&Cs apply.*

The roots of the creamy, cheesy, infamous Italian pasta dish are heavily debated. While most agree that it’s native to the Rome and Lazio region, there are different theories about its origins.

Some people believe that it was invented by outdoor labourers who needed a filling meal while working long hours, and its name, carbonaro, meaning ‘charcoal burner,’ is a reflection of this. Others speculate that it was created during the Allied Liberation of Rome in 1944 when American soldiers brought their daily ration of eggs and bacon to local restaurants.

While the origins remain disputed, Gusto’s combination of cream, pancetta, parsley and black pepper, aims to savour the flavours of Italy, ready for indulgence.

Graham Kirk, Executive Chef at Gusto said:

“Bucatini pasta and Carbonara are both most commonly associated with Rome and the Lazio region, so marrying the two together in our Gusto recipe was a must. The key for us is indulgence, so we thicken the sauce with Grana Padano cheese (the butterier cousin of Parmigiano Reggiano) and the hollowed centre of bucatini pasta absorbs the sauce into every inch of the dish, all brought together with authentic Pancetta imported from Italy, which finishes the dish with salty richness.”

This offer is available across all 14 venues including Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Nottingham, Oxford, Liverpool, Alderley Edge, Cheadle Hulme, Didsbury, Heswall, Knutsford, and Cookridge.

*This offer is only available on Friday 1st September and Saturday 2nd September 2023. It cannot be used alongside other discount offers. It can only be redeemed against Gusto’s large Carbonara (RRP £14.95).

It can only be redeemed if a screenshot of the offer is presented to staff when dining. One screenshot will apply the discount to all qualifying meals at the table.
